Course Content and Objective: Every business in the world needs to make complex decisions. Operations Research (OR) provides the tools needed to make intelligent decisions in view of optimization. This course will focus on mathematical modelling. As a part of this course the students will be given sufficient training in model formulation. On the methodology part, Linear Programming techniques will be introduced. Students will have the ability to solve a transportation problem, assignment problem, game theory problem, queuing theory problem and dynamic programming problem. During the course students will learn how to solve linear programming problems using Excel solver and other optimization software like LINGO and AMPL. At the end of the course, students must have the skills to build their own formulations and to choose an appropriate solution technique for a given formulation.
